The answer to “free records?” is always YES. That’s the guiding rule that led me to getting a boatload of 7” polka records from Dave at Single File 45s.
I wrote about the first time we connected on the IG after I admired his collection of Waffle House records. Since then he has set aside polka records for me whenever he discovers them in his acquisitions.
The last haul was huge and I’m still sorting through the stack. Nearly all of the records came from Wisconsin, so that makes them all special. I am now fully ready to partner with a restaurant or bar that wants me to fill their Wurlitzer or Rowe jukebox for a polka part (ahem, Le Tigre Lounge or Fabiola’s).
I’ll pull some of these Wisconsin 7” gems for the next episode of Polka Time, but this week’s album of the week is the Hot Shot Polka by The Goszlings. There isn’t much on the internet about The Goszlings, other than a mention that the band included Romy Gosz’s sons, Thomas and Anthony, in Tom’s obituary. Some day I’ll dig deeper into the biographies of these musicians, but for now, we get to hear them play on the radio.

Thanks to these community-powered stations for keeping vintage polka on the air waves.
I’m sure I’ve heard that song, but I don’t remember seeing it in my collection. Maybe in the 45s box. I’ll take a peek.
Do you have this. I finally found it on YouTube.
